So what I'd like to know is which ram (manufacturing ID numbers) will work in my MBP? I'd like to get the best price I can on the ram, so it's useful to have all the different versions/numbers considering they're identical. This is the same with the 1333 too, as CT2K8G3S1339M is identical to CT2C8G3S1339M (link), etc. For instance, CT2K8G3S160BM is the same as CT2C8G3S160BM I'd really like to go with Crucial (unless someone thinks there's a much better value out there) and what I've found is that Crucial makes identical ram with some versions stating "Mac compatible" and whatnot with a higher cost. My problem is that there are a ton of different ram identification numbers out there, as identical ram can have differing manufacturing id numbers.

Point being, I'd like to purchase 2x8gb 1600 DDR3 PC3-12800 ram, because even if my MBP didn't run at the full 1600, it would run at 1333. Also, though the 2011 MBP 13" i5 originally had a DDR3 1333 MHz 204-Pin SODIMM, plenty of MBP owners have stated that they installed 1600 MHz into the machine with no problems, and that the MBP recognized the 16gb 1600 immediately (link 1) (link 2). I've decided to buy 16gb ram rather than just 8gb of memory with the future in mind, as the price different between the two isn't enough to dissuade me.įirst and foremost, though Apple came out and said that the 2011 MBP maxed out at 8gb, a ton of sites and manufacturers have stated that they can actually take 16gb of ram (link). However, as it concerns the memory, I've done a ton of research lately but it's gotten to the point where I'm frustrated enough to seek advice/recommendations on what 16gb ram I should purchase.
