Another test revealed that the sub could go nearly 130 mph when submerged (depending on depth) and 84mph when surfaced. It was also predicted that the sub could only go to a top speed of 56 mph when submerged and 44 when surfaced. Further testing and analysis showed that the sub could actually go to depths of nearly 69 kilometers Before the hull began to show damage. When the submarine went down to that depth the hull showed no signs of damage from water pressure. The first prediction was that the sub could only go 420 meters down. The first thing researchers tested was the Type XXIX-H’s maximum depth. The Type XXIX-H U-boat is also equipped with both passive and active sonars and carry up to 20 torpedoes. The submarine body frame is also shaped in such a way that it can deflect active sonar pings from enemy ships away from the ship’s sonar receiver. The maximum radius of the device is 58 meters all around, meaning that anything outside of the radius will not be able to hear any sound made by the submarine. Though the engines were very quiet scientists decided to add a mute device which generates a vibration dampening field around itself. The U-Boat would be Powered by two small water-cooled Nuclear reactors which generate power to electric engines which propel the submarine to a top speed of 56mph when submerged and 44mph when surfaced. The requirements for this submarine was that it had to be fast and have a very long range and a large amount of torpedoes. The new submarine was designed under Codename “Barrakuda” and the given the official name of the Type XXIX-H U-boat. The 5th Reich Kriegsmarine needed a new fast-Attack submarine to replace these outdated submarines and be much more effective and easier to produce. However these old U-boats are becoming harder and harder to maintain and becoming fragile due to their age. The massive 5th Reich U-boat Fleet is the biggest submarine fleet in the world, mostly made up of world war 2 era Type VI and Type IX U-Boats.
